Skin is our unique interface with the world and a reflection of our inner state. It protects us and keeps us all in one place. What we put on and in and around matters. For our skin’s health and also because eventually that which washes down the drain and into our soil and waterways also matters.

The industry of cosmetics and beauty, although it has come a long way in the green movement, is often built on the emotions of the consumer. With a mind boggling array of information coming at us from all sides, most of the focus being on end results, much of the story is being left untold.

In addition to offering incredible quality and wow inducing effectiveness, a mission of Urthaline is to bring us closer to the reality of the production of what we put on our faces and bodies.  The many hands, and resources that go into this work of producing raw materials. The closer we can get to understanding this with our trade partners, the better we can inform our community. Offering what we learn into the production of high quality products and the stories and pathways behind each and every drop.

Aiming to reduce waste and increase health for people and the planet. Taking into account the natural resources, the locations thereof, and human labor cost that go into this impeccable sourcing, we choose to keep our botanical products scaled at a sustainable rate. In an effort to keep the highest quality and to source supply lines with integrity, we are offering our products as member exclusive only. With limited membership availability. This allows for healthy scalability, and a more direct and intimate relationship with our clientele. Allowing for personalized and customized care and consultation within the Urthaline community.

  • I’ve been a practical activist my whole adult life. Taking a deep look at the industries and organizations most personal to me;  the food I eat, the clothing I wear, what I put on my skin and what I live in and who I am surrounded by. These areas have most motivated me to be part of a creative caring revolution. Starting super locally. Doing what I can to make a difference for the beings of this planet. 

    I’ve poured my heart into research and practice. Offering 25 years of skill building as a medically trained and naturopathically influenced esthetician and healing arts devotee. I’ve dedicated decades to helping people feel at home in their skin and bodies in a natural way. 

    Over the years I’ve crafted and formulated my own products. Testing and fine tuning. Cherry picking suggestions for my clients  from here and there. mostly because there were very few examples out on the market at the time, that I truly felt gave results, while being in integrity.  There was always something in there that I wouldn’t use on myself. Why would I suggest it to another? Pouring over research and considering the environmental impact of every molecule. Asking What happens when products applied to the skin accumulate in the body and also what happens when they wash into the soil and waterways? 

    My own skin is highly sensitive. As a teenager I had compromised it with a severe accidental radiation burn resulting in rosacea. I’m extraordinarily grateful that I was given the opportunity to learn from the late great Annemarie Camenzind, from Switzerland, who founded the European Institute of Naturopathic Skincare. I learned a global perspective on esthetics including Ayurveda and naturopathy. From there I went on to receive a few more years of advanced training working in a medical setting at Virginia Mason. Learning the ins and outs of allopathic dermatology, followed by a few more years working in Kerala Ayurveda Clinic in Seattle.. 

    Studying herbalism and nutrition, and learning to take care of my sensitive skin naturally from early on, has so far staved off some of the bigger issues that come from such severe damage. I formulate with this in mind, knowing most skins are compromised and sensitive to modern life in some form or other.

    My formulas have all been meticulously crafted and then tested. Using them on myself for a couple years in the harsh conditions of full time gardening and land work at Shining Heart Sanctuary. In the drying winds of the Columbia Gorge. All with great results. 

    When I’m not working with clients or in my lab, or in the garden. I’m also working on formulating and crafting natural and innovative building materials, with my husband, Yaniv, for our health improving home building company, Happy Healthy Home. Another industry of activism I’m passionate to participate in making healthy change. Because the homes we live in are very much like a second skin. 

    30 years ago, there weren’t that many options, nor was there a mindset. The marketing leaders of the industry pronounced that natural products would be the next big wave. Sure enough, overall for the better, as the demand has changed. Green is the new norm and in a relatively unregulated marketing world, so is “green washing.” 

    In my research and adventures in green chemistry formulating, and sourcing ethically and sustainably,  it is increasingly clear there are many challenges to overcome. It is my goal to craft with integrity and transparency, and to inform my sphere of influence with honesty, passion and humility. To continue to improve and fine tune this care, these creations, and these connections for the benefit of all. 

    My passion for having my hands on people’s faces is equal to that of having them in the earth. My love affair with plants and animals, study of herbalism, and desire to broaden the local footprint has led to the beginnings of a regenerative micro farm food, flower, and herb forest  here at Shining Heart Sanctuary. On the indigenous lands of the Yakima and Klickitat people. I’m honored to join the vast  network of growers and soil tenders in the regenerative agriculture revolution.

  • A healing nature sanctuary and regenerative medicinal food, flower and herb forest nestled into the foothills of Mt Pahto (Adams) along the White Salmon River. These indigenous lands of the Yakima and Klickitat are being lovingly regenerated from clearcutting. Cultivated using mindful organic, biodynamic, and permaculture practices.
